World Earth Day 2024
Earth is our home. We rely upon it for our existence in many different ways. Its resources feed us and provide the materials of our way of life. Even modest changes to Earth’s systems have had profound influences on human societies and the course of civilization.
Earth Day was founded by American senator Gaylord Nelson in the form of environmental education. This day commenced on April 22, 1970, and today more than 1 billion people in 192 countries of the world are celebrating Earth Day. Earth Day is now a global event each year; it is the largest civic-focused day of action in the world.
Every year earth day has its own theme.

This year, the event is being celebrated with the theme “Planet vs Plastics”, to raise awareness of the harms of plastic pollution for human and planetary health.
As scientific innovations are taking place around the world, the pace of environmental degradation is also increasing. So to increase awareness about environmental degradation some individuals and institutions have come forward for Good cause.
Mahatma Gandhi once said that “nature has enough resources to fulfil the needs of the human being but it can’t fulfil the greed of the humans”.
Although on the other hand of spectrum, Critics of Earth Day claim that the environmental movement is a middle class, anti-business movement that deals in mainstream conservation politics. It allegedly overlooks the needs of minorities and the poor who are victims of environmental racism and classism.”
We should take all the steps nevertheless to protect put planet earth from all the harms and we should take this firm pledge on World Earth Day. Today it is the burning need of our times to preserve the environment of planet earth and its resources.
