 Mental health is of utmost importance as it refers to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well-being. It is all about how people think, feel, and behave. People sometimes use the term “mental health” to mean the absence of a mental disorder. Mental health can affect daily living, relationships, and physical health.Mental health is getting crushed in Kashmir due to wide range of problems confronted by the youth ranging from unemployment to no leisure opportunities . The lack of any hope is one of the main reasons behind the crisis in the mental health picture  of Kashmir and other regions .
Nearly 1.8 million Kashmiris, or nearly half of all adults, have some form of mental disorder, Doctors Without Borders estimated after surveying 5,600 households in 2015. Nine of 10 have experienced conflict-related traumas. The figures are much higher than in India, according to other surveys.Government has now started to address this rising mental health crisis by launch of more helplines .SUKOON’ is a mental health helpline initiative (toll free number 1800-1807159) to offer guidance to persons (or their well-wishers) who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, panic attack, PTSD, adjustment disorder, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, mental health emergency and pandemic induced psychological stress.As mental health is collapsing in Kashmir the suicide spree is being seen from North to South to Central Kashmir .As a result the Government recently launched helpline Sukoon to help people fight mental stress. 
This initiative, launched by SDRF First Battalion Kashmir in collaboration with Mission Youth J&K and Tourism department, will guide the caller to avail services of clinical psycholgists, therapists, counsellors and psychiatrists and provide round the clock one to one support, free and confidential services to those experiencing mental health issues.
Experts have made it time and again clear that are serious conditions which can affect your thinking, mood, and behavior. They may be occasional or long-lasting. They can affect your ability to relate to others and function each day. Mental disorders are common; more than half of all Americans will be diagnosed with one at some time in their life. But there are treatments. People with mental disorders can get better, and many of them recover completely.
Years of long turmoil and conflict in Jammu and Kashmir have taken a toll on people’s mental health in the state .
One hopes that all important paradigms related to the all important mental health improve in Kashmir.
